One of the only animes to ever create a ripple when it comes to the gaming world was none other than Dragon Ball by Akira Toriyama. Ever since the inception of Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball Super, DragonBallz store online, and Dragon Ball GT, they have been licensed to gaming companies since then; subsequently, they prepped up for franchising.
These games were a hit to others while some considered it a miss. Some claimed them to be masterpieces while others were ignored such as the Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Battle 22 and the uncompleted Dragon Ball Z Sagas that left the fans baffled.
Nonetheless, thanks to the captivating anime that started this gaming revolution, fans and gamers alike loved and enjoyed these video games. Not only was it reminiscent of the famous anime, but it was also a great engaging game! Here is a list of our top 10 favorites:
Dragon Ball FighterZ
When this game was publicly announced, the fans were ecstatic. Fans had waited for years for a new game after the last fighting-focused game of the Dragon Ball Z series was released. The Dragon Ball FighterZ had intense fighting gameplay that focused on a balance of technical as well as combat interface. To top it off, a wide array of characters from the Dragon Ball saga was included too!
Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3
Before Dragon Ball FighterZ, this was every fan’s favorite game. It was considered the best video game with superb fighting gameplay. The Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3 featured the balance of gameplay mechanics, story mode, characters, and action. Only our top 1 pick has ever managed to defeat this game. That says a lot!
Dragon Ball Z: Super Butoden 2
While others would disagree with the fact that this made it high on our list because of it being a 2D video game, many would actually agree that this game is superb! Dragon Ball Z: Super Butoden 2 features massive stages with variations of environments that the game would have probably needed some kind of split-screen for that all-around feel. Even though this game featured considerably few characters compared to the modern games of the Dragon Ball Z series, this game features a compelling story that ultimately led to a strange twist with the involvement of Bojack.
Dragon Ball Z: Attack of The Saiyans
Although not the first video game ever to focus on the story of Saiyans, this game actually offers an interesting and complex gameplay. The game starts with the Dragon Ball age and ultimately, adds more and more content padding the entire gameplay out.
Dragon Ball Z: Buu’s Fury
This was considered rather an old school game. While this game’s storyline and combat weren’t really bad, once the newer versions of the saga came out, it came to be one of the forgotten ones – all that great gameplay to waste.
Dragon Ball: Advanced Adventure
This one is an overlooked game by many. This was a Gameboy Advance game where the storyline leads to a boss battle with the one and only King Piccolo. A mix of flying stages, fighting stages, and platforming stages, this game proudly showcases a variety of gameplay.
Super Dragon Ball Z
Due to the high expectations Budokai Tenkaichi and Budokai set, the fans hoped that this one would be as exciting and fun as the other two. However, it was actually rather slow-paced with too few characters for the fans’ liking.
Dragon Ball: Fusions
This is an intensive game no fan ever expected to approve of. Dragon Ball: Fusions is primarily focused on fan-based gameplay with plenty of character references to characters throughout the saga.
Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3
Despite being considered as one of the top picks when it comes to the Dragon Ball Z fighting arena, this game actually has no special features, and its characters were rather underwhelming. However, due to the full set of characters included here, this was considered everyone’s collective must-have.
Dragon Ball Z: Xenoverse 2
Fans have dubbed this and its sequel as clearly overrated games – the worst ones yet in this category mainly because the game failed to reach the peak of its supposed potential gameplay, with only a few of the characters playing differently, and its story mode being underwhelming too.
The Dragon Ball Z animation has captivated the hearts of the viewers and the gaming world as well. If you haven’t tried playing these video games, then you miss the fun and excitement these games offer. Try it now and see for yourself.
