Some games work quite well with two monitors. Some other games have boosted the gameplay experience thanks to dual screens.

How

There are two ways on how you can use a laptop as a second monitor, one way is through the use of cables and another one is with the use of Wi-Fi. Depending on your machine, using cables might not work because some machines aren’t programmed to send out video signals to the other which is very important in terms of setting up dual monitors.

Cables

There are two cables that you can use to connect your main laptop or desktop to your second monitor, you can either use the VGA cable or HDMI. VGA cable might not work with older machines because, as mentioned above, it usually only gives out a signal but does not receive one.

HDMI is a lot more compatible even with the older machines though, so you might want to use this instead.

The process on how to use HDMI or VGA cable is almost the same, just follow the steps below.

  • Connect your main laptop or desktop to your secondary laptop via HDMI or VGA cable.
  • On your main device, go to the Display Settings and choose to Extend these displays.
  • Your secondary laptop should now be usable as a second monitor.

Wi-Fi

Using Wi-Fi is a lot more convenient since you won’t have to use any cables at all but the process might be a little more complicated. To start using Wi-Fi to connect your second monitor to the main, just follow the steps below:

  • On your second laptop, go to Settings > System > Projecting to This PC.
  • Set up the necessary options so that it will be usable as a second monitor.
  • On your main desktop or laptop, press the shortcut key Windows Key + P.
  • Choose Extend and you should see the second laptop you have set up earlier.

With the simple step-by-step process above, you will now be able to enjoy using two monitors at the same time. The process may seem tedious at first but think about the time and effort you can save from switching between windows. The second monitor will be a new experience but once you get used to it, it will surely enhance your productivity at work and your gaming experience as well.
